How long does it really take to see good results from weight lifting?

I've heard it takes anywhere from 6 months to one year to see good results from weight lifting, however I've only been lifting maybe a month - month and a half and I've already noticed that my quads, calves, glutes, biceps, forearms, shoulders, and pecs have grown quite a bit since I started. I have been making sure to get enough carbs and protein and I know that's what you are supposed to do, but is this one of the main reasons, or is the the whole 6 months to a year thing a lie?
